On August 8th-16th, our team of six from Renewal Church will be doing a Stem/Art camp for kids and work projects in a remote village in the highlands of Cobán, Guatemala.
About Cobán
Cobán sits in Alta Verapez, one of the most improverished and marginalized regions of Latin America. Many kids grow up without fathers — when I last went to Cobán the maturity of the children against the backdrop of poverty was both humbling and heartbreaking. It’s a privilege to get to know them.
Economic and spiritual poverty are two issues AMI Ministerio Centro de Cobán addresses. While our short trip looks to meet both physical and spiritual needs, I am excited to witness to work that God is already doing in Cobán. Seeing the kids receive the love of Jesus — and for me to even receive that love from them — impacts me more than I feel any work of my hands impacts them.
What we are doing
As a team, we want to join God in his work to address physical and spiritual poverty, as well as further the Gospel in this remote village.
- Stem/Art camp. Building relationships with the kids to covey Gospel through Stem/art.
- Work projects to help local families to help meet physical needs.
- Praying with families to help meet spiritual needs.

- For the kids to learn and know Jesus, not just while we are there but after we leave!
- AMI Ministerio Centro de Cobán Staff. They are receiving non-stop short-term missions team throughout the summer — we’ll be one of the last teams to visit. AMI International School also starts their school year in August!
- A few people on our team get carsick! We will be driving windy roads for 3 hours every day!
